Essential Information

One of the last survivors of Burnham's plan and a dramatic example of Manila's Art Deco architecture, the Metropolitan Theater is now in a state of disrepair. This once majestic theater was inaugurated in 1931 and had a capacity of 1,670. Like many of Manila's grandest structures, the Met was severely damaged in WWII. Although it was rebuilt in the 1960's, it gradually fell into disuse and eventually into decay. Rehabilitation plans have been put forward.
