Essential Information

A mausoleum containing national hero Jose Rizalís mortal remains, the Rizal Monument is guarded by marines in full regalia and is regarded as a symbol of Philippine nationhood. It was once called motto stella (meaning Ďguiding starí)óa name that never caught on. The martyrís bronze sculpture is one of the most popular icons of Manila, appearing on everything from money to souvenir shirts.
