Essential Information

This magnificently restored building is a Singaporean icon you need to see to believe. It was built in 1865 and has since housed 10 permanent exhibits set over three levels. Itís a good idea to join the guided tour (available all year except December and January) if you donít want to be overwhelmed by the sheet scale of this museum. Exhibits revolve around pan-Asian civilization, including China, India, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia. Among the best is the \'Dehua\' porcelain collection, which was originally owned by a private collector. The golden textiles in Gallery 4A is also worth a look. Itís the only exhibit in the world showing the link between textiles and jewelry in Southeast Asian culture.

Tips, Comments and Reviews : Asian Civilizations Museum

Guided tours are available at 2pm Monday, and at 11am and 2pm Tuesday to Friday. Try to visit in the morning, as most school groups come in the afternoon (especially during the months of May and November). Donít overlook the 5th century Buddha figurine. Itís small (about 20cm tall) but is one of the most prized items in the Asian Civilizations Museum!
