Essential Information

Occupying an 18th century palace, this museum houses one of southeast Asia's finest (albeit haphazardly arranged) Buddha collections. Free tours at 9:30am every Wednesday and Thursday are available for those who wish to understand Ayuthaya- and Dvaravati-style religious sculptures. Head to the Gallery of Thai History for audiovisual exhibits and a crash course on the country's past.

You can get to Bangkok National Museum the fastest by taxi, or you can go to Maharaj Pier via the Chao Phraya Express Boat. From there, the museum is a 20-minute walk away.
