Essential Information

Also called the Royal Field, Sanam Luang is where all of Bangkok's important ceremonies take place, including royal cremations. The yearly ploughing ceremony in May is also held here; the king commences the rice-growing season with a traditional Brahmin ritual.

The Royal Ploughing ceremony (held here in Sanam Luang) is not to be missed. This big celebration involves ancient costumes and a scared oxen, among many other things.

Sanam Luang has 30-acres of land and it is also used for royal cremations. The most recent was for Princess Galyani, the King's sister, in 2008.
