Essential Information

Known for the 46-meter long and 15-meter high Buddha, Wat Pho is easily the most-visited tourist attraction in Bangkok and is the city’s biggest temple. Do not stop at the reclining Buddha—be sure to explore the many intriguing corners and traditional massage porches. The grounds are rarely crowded, so feel free to ramble and take pictures next to giant granite statues that were left behind by Chinese ships. Wat Pho serves as an open university and a national learning center for traditional Thai massage and medicine. Visit the Wat Pho Thai Traditional Medical Massage School for a little kneading.

Wat Pho is a temple, so everyone is encouraged to dress appropriately to show respect. This means no shorts, short skirts, and skimpy clothing.
