Essential Information

Once a hiding place for Resistance fighters during the French occupation, the small but venerated Bach Ma is one of Hanoi's oldest temples. It was built during the reign of Emperor Ly Thai To in the early 11th century and restored in 1839; since then, it has since been one of the city's most visited places of worship. The Bach Ma Temple is known for its white horse statue, which honors the legendary steed said to have helped Emperor Ly Thai To establish the fortress nearby.
