Are credit cards accepted in Cambodia?

Hello. I would like to know if credit cards are widely accepted in Siem Reap? In restaurants and such? Thank you so much! - Jose - Guest

credit cards accepted Cambodia
Credit cards are not generally accepted in Cambodia, although top-end hotels as well as some middle-class accommodations do accept them. Few restaurants/bars accept credit card payments and most travel agents prefer you pay cash for their services. Save your credit cards for larger purchases in airline offices, hotels, restaurants, and upmarket boutiques. These places accept most major credit cards (more widely, Visa, JCB, and MasterCard), but expect charges up to 3% on your bill. Bring cash as much as possible when travelling outside the big cities (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Battambang, Kampot, etc.).

Hey, Jose! Should you need to make a cash advance, there are Visa- and MastarCard- compatible ATMs in most major cities in Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Battambang, Kompong Cham, and Sihanoukville. They dispense US dollars. The largest withdrawal is $2,000. Try to use ANZ Royal Bank, as they have the most extensive network.  There is a charge of $5 for every cash advance transaction, if I not mistaken. Some travel agents as well as bigger hotels in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh can arrange cash advances for a 5% commission.

Here's a warning about using credit cards  in Cambodia: You have to pay an extra 3% because even top-end hotels, boutiques , airlines, and restaurants will pass the charges straight to you.
