Is Cambodia safe for women travelers

Hello! I will be in Phnom Penh on a business trip and was thinking of visiting Siem Reap / Angkor Wat since I'm there anyway. I will be traveling alone -- probably flying in from Phnom Penh, because taking the bus might be dangerous (though I would love to try that, if it's safe). So I guess my question is, is Cambodia safe for women traveling alone? And can I safely take that bus? - Gracie - Guest

Cambodia safe women travelers
Despite reports that overstate the dangers of traveling alone in Cambodia, the vast majority of tourists that visit the place encounter no problems at all while on tour. While petty theft is definitely a big nuance, there is no minor travel issue that can't be solved with a bit of common sense and precaution in Cambodia.

Traveling to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) from Phnom Penh by bus is definitely safe and far cheaper than a plane ride, although the trip is much slower. Be extra careful when riding the night bus because roads aren't very safe after dark (see: speeding vehicles and road traffic that include herds of stray calf and other animals). More than higher chances of accidents, you also miss the beautiful countryside scenery when leaving town after sundown.
