Is Manila walkable

Is it safe to walk around Manila -- the Malate area especially? Even late at night? - CherR - Guest

Manila walkable
It is relatively safe to walk around Manila, including the people and club-infested Malate area. But like any other populous districts, you should never let your guard down whenever plying these areas, especially during late night. A lot of our traveler friends have had a great time visiting places in and around Malate, with little nuance. This said, be wary of these petty, but sometimes really annoying disruptions on your pleasant walk:

1.    Street dwellers asking for spare change (do them and yourself a favor, IGNORE!)
2.    Random men selling watches, belts, and other junk
3.    Overly friendly and eager  women (who are most likely working girls, since the area used to be a thriving red light district, it's being cleaned up, though)
4.    Petty thieves

Other than these, you shouldn't have any problems finding a good time in Malate. The area is known for its awesome clubs and bars that cater to all tastes. Lots of curious places to party too, like Hobbit House. It's the place to be if you want good live music and cheap drinks. Practice caution and common sense and there will be no reason you won't enjoy your visit!
