Where is Intramuros?

And more importantly, how do I get there from Makati? I have heard a lot about Intramuros being a beautiful little city within a city in Manila, with Spanish architecture and horse carriages and all that. I will be staying in a hotel in Makati and I know it would be easier to take a cab, but I really want to take public transport like a real local. - SandraWT - Guest

where intramuros

The historic centre of Intramuros or Ciudad Murada can be found in Old Manila. It is the oldest and most historic district in the city, complete with beautiful old buildings, museums, and old ruins. Getting there is easy. You have several choices:

(1) The MRT-LRT1 route: Take the MRT (Blue Line) to Taft terminal station and take the connecting bridge to LRT1 (Yellow Line) EDSA station. Take the Yellow Line to the Central Terminal Station and walk 3 to 4 blocks to the gates or take a jeepney en route.

(2) The Bus Route: Catch a PVP Liner bus from Sen. Gil Puyat Ave. (Buendia), Ayala Ave. or Makati Ave.  headed for Lawton/Taft. Alight at Manila City Hall and cross the street using the underpass, away from the city hall and towards Intramuros.

(3) The Jeepney Route: Catch a jeepney to LRT-Taft (From Sen. Gil Puyat Ave. or Buendia) and get off at Taft Avenue. Take another jeep to Lawton or City Hall and use the underpass to reach Intramuros.

(4) When all else fails, hail a cab! Your driver will know where Intramuros is.
