Daytrip ideas from Manila?

My husband and I are going to Manila for a wedding and figured we might as well go on daytrips to attractions nearby. We have 5 days in total and intend to go by bus or ferry, as we don't want to drive. Any suggestions? - Atom - Guest

Boy have we a lot of awesome ideas for you to try! Manila is the ultimate day-trip kick-off point, central to many well-kept destinations far from, but close enough to the Metropolis. From the north to the south of Luzon Island (where manila is right smack at the middle), you will find awesome places to escape to, even for just a weekend or two of day tripping.

Tagaytay in Cavite is worth visiting, if you want to see a stunning volcanic mound right in the middle of a pristine lake. When not trekking up Taal volcano's crater, you can marvel at the beautiful Balite Falls, or take a breath-taking ride at the country's biggest ferris wheel known as the 'Sky Eye.' All these can be done in one full day.

If you have more time in your hands, head out to Angeles City in Pampanga or push further for Subic Bay, which is now one of the most sought after recreational playgrounds in the country, alive with all kinds of leisure activities, culture, and nature. Other places worth exploring include the beaches of Batangas and the hidden coves of Puerto Galera.

If you want to spend a day at a theme park, try Enchanted Kingdom. Local buses can take you and from there if you are coming from Makati, or you can take the shuttle bus service for Php150 (one-way) or Php300 (round trip) at Ayala Car Park beside Intercontinental Hotel, just beside SM City Makati and across Ayala MRT Station.

If you are coming from Quezon City, you can catch the shuttle at Quezon Avenue (ETON). It costs Php180 for a one-way trip, and Php360 for a round trip.

Schedules may change from time to time, so do check out Enchanted Kingdom's page here .
