Can you recommend hotels in the Ratchaprasong (sp) area in Bangkok?

My partner and I will be in Bangkok on a business trip this July and we're looking for hotels in the Ratchaprasong business district (I hope I spelled that right). We're looking for mid-range options, western and a bit upscale (not backpacker, please). Our budget is $100 per night or so. - Pippa (Guest)

Ratchaprasong is one of the most vibrant entertainment, shopping, and business districts in Bangkok near skywalk and the BTS Skytrain route. It's not hard to find good hotels to make your stay more convenient. The area is dotted with hotels for all budgets, and most of them have excellent access to everything that Bangkok has to offer.

The Four Seasons Hotel offers rooms below $200. While this may be a bit over your budget, but for a few more dollars you will benefit from the hotel's superb address, within walking distance to Lumpini Park and many business and entertainment locations. The hotel features a sprawling Olympic size pool and a lavish tropical garden.

Gentara Grand at Central World is a great value choice. Rooms per night cost anywhere from $80 to $130, perfect for your budget range. One of the largest hotels in Asia Pacific, this business hotel is central to Bangkok's business scene, offering easy access to bot Chidlom and Siam BTS stations via Skywalk. On site are exceptional restaurant choices, a spa, and impressive business amenities.

If you can stretch your budget just a bit further, Grand Hyatt Erawan is my recommendation. It is  located right in the middle of Bangkok's commercial and business district. Grand Hyatt Erawan is next to a BTS station and features an ultra modern business centre and fully equipped meeting rooms for small to large conferences.

We recommend these $100+ hotels in Ratchaprasong:

Average rate of a deluxe room for two is $100 per night. Great location in Ratchaprasong on Ploenchit Road.

A bit more expensive than Marriot at $125 per night, but also more luxurious. We love the quick access to the MTR (Chit Lom and Ratchadamri).

I have personally stayed at the Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel (operated by Marriot) and paid around $100 (3,200 THB) for their simplest room.  I thought that was a pretty good rate for a 5-star hotel in the middle of Ratchaprasong. I remember being given a room with big windows and a nice view of the city. Breakfast was fantastic, and all guests have access to the gym. It was nice to be able to squeeze in a work out because all I ever did in Bangkok was eat! Anyway, the hotel is in a nice spot in Ratchaprasong near all the higher-end shopping areas; it's very easy to reach CentralWorld,  The Erawan, Gaysorn, Amarin Plaza, etc. Ratchaprasong is definitely "new Bangkok" so if you're looking for easy access to the temples and palaces, this isn't the area to be in. That said, all the historic / cultural tourist attractions are still relatively easy to access from Ratchaprasong by taxi.

It's A Good Idea To Stay In Ratchaprasong, Especially If You Are In Bangkok For Business. Traffic Can Get Really Bad And You Might End Up Missing Important Meetings. Your Hotel In Bangkok Should Be Well-located To Important Commercial And Business Sites As Well As The Public Rail.
