Taxi from Clark International Airport

Tourists entering the Philippines via Clark International Airport can now easily take taxis to different parts of Pampanga as well as Subic, Manila, Makati, NAIA airport, and even Baguio. If you’re scared of overcharging, don’t be. Official fares are clearly posted and strictly implemented to protect passengers. Here’s what you will pay if you take a cab from Clark to any of these destinations:

Baguio – PhP 5,760 or $130*
NAIA Airport – PhP 4,316
Makati area – PhP 3,916 or $89
Manila – PhP 3,496
Subic / Olongapo – PhP 2,953
San Fernando – PhP 1,200
Magalang – PhP 650
Angeles – PhP 500
Mabalacat – PhP 500
Dau – PhP 400
Balibago – PhP 400
Main gate – PhP 300
Fields Avenue – PhP 300

*Exchange rates – December 10, 2013

Please note that taxis do not take foreign currency. You need to change a small amount at any of the moneychangers in the arrivals hall. All taxis are air conditioned and are in great condition, typically Toyota sedans or minivans. Tipping, though not expected, is appreciated. You can give your driver anywhere from PhP 20 to PhP 200, depending on how far your destination is.

Options for the cheapskate

If you’re more of a frugal traveler, taking the cab might be a little too expensive. But don’t worry—there’s always the bus. When I landed in Clark coming from Hong Kong last week, I took the transfer bus to Manila—a surprisingly convenient option. The fare cost P200 (less than $4) and the journey was quick and comfortable. There are at least three bus companies offering transfers from Clark, and you’ll see them right after clearing immigration. I chose the bus that terminates at the Trinoma drop-off point in Quezon City, a part of Metro Manila. I then hailed a cab to my hotel in Makati and spent another P250 ($6). So I just paid $10 instead of $89. Not a bad deal.
