Travelling by Bus from Khao San to Siam Paragon Mall

Khao San Road is a haven for budget travellers looking for a cheap place to crash, but it is far from the city centre and is not connected to the Bangkok MRT. But don't worry--you can always take the bus. For solo travellers, reaching Siam Paragon and the rest of the bustling Pratunam shopping area is easy by bus.

Why You Should Not Take a Taxi

It is quite impractical to ride a taxi or a tuk-tuk to reach the city centre if you are alone. A cab ride can set you back around 100baht , even if you haggle with the driver. Even if you do somehow get them to agree to use the taxi meter, you will still pay about 50baht or more, depending on the traffic situation.

Buses - The Cheaper Option

So if you want to go to the Bangkok city centre, Siam Paragon, and Pratunam, take the bus instead. From Khao San Road, head tp Tanao Road, then turn right to Damnoen Klang Road where you can stand by the stoplight and wait for a bus.

Don't be intimidated by the Siamese bus signage. Just look for the number #79 and you’ll be on your way to Siam Paragon Mall. An air-conditioned bus will cost you 13 baht, and a regular bus only costs 6.50 baht.

Buying Your Tickets

There's no need to buy a bus ticket beforehand. That's not how Bangkok's city buses work. Once inside the bus, just sit and wait for the uniformed woman to collect your fare. Say where you are going and she will tell you how much you need to pay. Make sure to hold on to your ticket for inspection later.

The ride is comfortable. The bus isn’t very crowded and there are plenty of seats. It is also quite safe; you can pull out your mobile phone without fear of someone snatching it. If you are not able to get a seat, find a pole or handle to hold on to as the ride may be a bit jerky.

Journey Time

From Khao San, the bus ride to Siam Paragon takes about 30 to 45 minutes depending on how congested the traffic is. You can't miss the Siam Paragon stop because almost everyone gets off here.

Going Back to Khao San by Bus

It's also easy to take the bus back to Khao San Road. Just cross the street from Siam Paragon and wait for bus #15. You are close to the Khao San stop when you see the Democracy Monument roundabout. You can’t possibly miss it.
